JAMMU & KASHMIR: Don’t Make Educational Institutions, Battle Grounds for Petty Partisan Interests: CPI(M)

THE Jammu and Kashmir state committee of the CPI(M) in a statement issued on April 8 has said it is unfortunate that, what was a non-issue, has been allowed to gain monstrous proportions by misinterpretations, unnecessary media-hype and mere politicking. As is now clear the incident occurred in NIT Srinagar in the wake of India versus West Indies Cricket match, as a section of local students raised slogans which were objected to, by the non-locals.

Actual Flood Damages Underrated

THE financial package announced by the prime minister of India and details given by the chief minister of J&K reveal that this package has nothing substantial to offer to the flood hit people and traders and the hype given to the paltry amount meant for flood relief is a cruel joke with the devastated families and the business establishment.

Speaker’s Observations Regrettable

THE observations of the speaker of J&K legislative assembly vis-à-vis private members bills submitted on the beef ban are regrettable. In a statement issued on October 4, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam, said that it was not expected from the speaker to disrespect his constitutional mandate of neutrality and virtually act as spokesperson of the government.

The remarks of the speaker indicate that the government has shelved the much needed debate on the bills related to beef ban.

Handicraft Workers Union: Revive Handicrafts & Support Impoverished Artisans

KASHMIR Handicraft Workers and Artisans Union held a day long convention at Srinagar on August 25 in which hundreds of workers and artisans participated. Participants were very enthusiastic and there was a sizable number of women workers and artisans. The convention demanded revival and modernisation of the age old and traditional handicrafts of Kashmir.

RSS’ fiddling with special status of J&K counter-productive: Tarigami

BJP and RSS have been making relentless efforts to hurt and provoke the political sentiments of people of Jammu and Kashmir by raising issues like the abrogation of constitutional Article 370, which gives special status to the state, and settlement of non-state subject soldiers in Kashmir, CPI(M) MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said, and warned that similar moves in the past have always proven counter-productive and against the interests of the state as well as the country.

CITU Holds Convention in Srinagar For the success of Sept 2 General Strike

STATING that the frequent amendments to labour laws have so far armed the employers further, state president of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and MLA, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said these amendments have deprived the working class who need co-ordinated efforts and a united resistance to safeguard their own interests across the country especially in Jammu and Kashmir.

J&K: Flood Package Extremely Disappointing

THE Jammu and Kashmir state committee of CPI(M) has described the central government’s flood rehabilitation and reconstruction package grossly inadequate and squarely against the expectations of the affected people of Jammu and Kashmir.

It is in utter disregard of the previous government’s memorandum to Government of India regarding grant of Rs 44000 crore as rehabilitation package. It is also nowhere near the tall promises of the PDP-BJP coalition government.
