Left Parties Delegation Meets Chief Election Commissioner

A Left Parties delegation comprising Sitaram Yechury, CPI(M) general secretary, D Raja, CPI secretary, Debabrata Biswas, AIFB general secretary and Nilotpal Basu, CPI(M) central secretariat member met the chief election commissioner on March 9 and submitted a memorandum concerning some issues in West Bengal. Below we reproduce the text of the memorandum.

WE are constrained to draw your attention to certain important issues which certainly will have an adverse impact on the efforts initiated by the Commission to hold free and fair polls for the West Bengal assembly. 

CPI(M) Submits Memo to Chief Election Commissioner on Bengal Polls

A two member delegation of the CPI(M) consisting of general secretary Sitaram Yechury and central secretariat member Nilotpal Basu met the chief election commissioner on March 2,  to draw attention of the commission to some serious concerns with regard to the forthcoming elections to the West Bengal legislative assembly. Withdraw Sedition Case

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on February 29.

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) condemns the registering of a case of sedition against Sitaram Yechury, general secretary of the CPI(M), and other leaders of opposition parties, in Hyderabad. The FIR has been lodged by the police ostensibly because these leaders had extended support to the students of JNU who are protesting against the arrest on sedition case of leaders of the students union and other student organisations.
