Arunachal Pradesh: Signal Verdict

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on July 13.

THE five-member constitution Bench of the Supreme Court has given a signal verdict overturning the change of government in Arunachal Pradesh through central intervention and upheld the inviolable federal character of our constitution.

Scrap the AFSPA

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on July 9, 2016.

THE Supreme Court judgement on the use of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) has underlined how this draconian law is a threat to the safety and lives of citizens. This Act ensures that the security forces can act with impunity and kill people without being brought to justice. The Court has held that such killings are “destructive of the rule of law and plainly unconstitutional”.

Donation to West Bengal Relief Fund

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury was awarded the N Ramachandran award for distinction in public service, 2016. Apart from a citation and a memento, the award also consists of a cash component of Rs 50,000.

The N Ramachandran Foundation was established to carry forward the legacy of highly respected journalist of Kerala who worked for over 65 years with integrity and had done reporting with a focus on people’s issues. N Ramachandran was associated with a major Kerala media group, Kerala Kaumudi.

Cloudburst in Uttarakhand

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on July 3, 2016

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its deep grief at the loss of lives and property in the cloudburst in Uttarakhand.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) calls upon the central government to immediately provide all assistance to the Uttarakhand government on a humanitarian basis to contain any further damage and to ensure speedy rehabilitation and livelihood of the affected people. 

 

Concern over Violence in Bangladesh

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on July 3

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses grave concern over the spate of violence engulfing Bangladesh claiming numerous lives.

 The recent spate of attacks against secular rationalists, minorities and foreigners clearly shows that the activities of the fundamentalists are on the rise.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) hopes that the government of Bangladesh will bring those responsible for the heinous murders to book and restore normalcy at the earliest.

Central Pay Hike Disappointing

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on June 30, 2016

THE pay hike for central government employees announced by the central government has been disappointing.  Based on the Seventh Central Pay Commission’s recommendations, there is only an increase of 14.2 percent in the emoluments  in terms of gross salary and the increase in the take-home pay  is just 7.4 percent for the lowest category.  The central government has deferred the decision on the revision in allowances.

Stop the Hoax, says AIFWAH

THE All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers, in a statement issued on June 23, has strongly condemned the hoax by the ministry of women and child development and its minister Maneka Gandhi on the service conditions of 27 lakh anganwadi workers and helpers in the country. AIFAWH demanded that the minister apologise to the anganwadi workers and helpers for the continuous misinformation campaign.

Yechury writes to External Affairs Minister Over an OFBJP, Malaysia Poster

SITARAM Yechury, CPI(M) general secretary and a member of the consultative committee of the ministry of external affairs wrote a letter to Sushma Swaraj, minister of external affairs on June 8 regarding a poster released by the Overseas Friends of the BJP. The poster is regarding the observations of the International Day of Yoga on June 19, 2016. Yechury said that it is both surprising and objectionable that the poster declares that this event is being supported by the High Commission of India, ministry of external affairs, ministry of ayush and the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.
