AP: Police Brutality on Anganwadi Workers Seeking Wage Hike

THOUSANDS of anganwadi workers, under the banners of CITU and AITUC, took out a massive rally from Tumallapalli Kalakshetram to lay siege to the chief minister’s camp office in Vijayawada, demanding immediate solution to their long-pending grievances. The anganwadi workers on December 18 organised ’Chalo Vijayawada' programme to seek implementation of the wage hike assurance. The Chandrababu government reneged on its promise of implementing the wage hike from September 1 and dilly-dallying on the issue by saying that a cabinet sub-committee will look into the demand of wage hike.

Tribal Protests Force AP Govt to Suspend Bauxite Mining Lease

UNITED and unrelenting struggle by tribal people and CPI(M) has forced the Telugu Desam Party-led government in Andhra Pradesh to suspend its order, granting bauxite mining lease for Jerrala reserve. The TDP government had on November 5 issued the order, granting mining lease to the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) for bauxite blocks of 1,212 hectares in Jerrala, Visakhapatnam.

Seminar on Democracy & Corporate Politics Held in Guntur

A Corporate Capital City in the Making

THE Andhra Pradesh government has collaborated with the Singapore government in the building of the planned capital city ‘Amaravati’.  Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is closely monitoring the collaboration, apart from his regular visits to Singapore. What is unheard of is that this entire process of building the capital city in partnership with foreign companies is resulting in the large-scale displacement of farmers, agricultural labourers and other rural unorganised workers.

Hudhud Ravages Visakhapatnam

THE very severe cyclonic storm Hudhud inflicted serious damage to the coastal city of Vishakapatnam in Andhra Pradesh as it made landfall at Kailasagiri on the outskirts of the city at 11:30 am on October 12. It also seriously affected the north coastal districts of the state along with few coastal areas in Odisha. The prior warning by the Cyclone Warning Division of India Meteorological Department and its exact prediction of path of the cyclone reduced the loss of lives to 35 persons.
