THE 17th Lok Sabha elections have resulted in the BJP and the NDA getting a decisive majority and the return of the Modi government to power. The BJP has won an increased majority and the NDA has increased its overall tally.
THE Index of Industrial Production has for the first time since June 2013 contracted in absolute terms by 0.1 per cent in March 2019 compared to a year ago. This comes on top of a mere 0.07 per cent increase in February, a 1.7 per cent increase in January, a 2.6 per cent increase in December, and a 0.3 per cent increase in November. Industrial growth in short has been slowing down for some time now and the latest figure only reaffirms this trend emphatically.
ON May 19, the 34th death anniversary of Comrade P Sundarayya was observed in Sundarayya Vignana Kendram (SVK) in Baghlingampalli and also at the new Sundarayya Vignana Kendram in Gachibowli. Glowing tributes were paid and the statue of Sundarayya was garlanded by Prof Ram Puniyani from IIT Mumbai and by many others present at the venue.

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the outrageous statement of BJP candidate from Bhopal parliamentary constituency, Pragya Singh Thakur, describing the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi Nathuram Godse: “was a patriot, is a patriot and will remain a patriot….” Pragya Thakur is a terror accused out on bail on medical grounds.
EVERY election is followed by an in-depth analysis of the way the elections were contested. The growth of right-wing forces in the period of continuing global economic crisis, has further increased the interest in studying the contributing factors. Apart from who voted for whom and why, analysis of various opinion polls, exit polls and their biases, electoral campaigns too are closely scrutinised to understand the issues raised, the target populace and the reasons behind concentrating only on those issues. The recently concluded elections to our parliament offer us a good example.
