Long Live Red October!

THE year-long observance of the centenary of the October Revolution concludes on November 7.  The 21st Congress of the CPI(M) had called for commemorating the centenary from November 7, 2016 to November 7, 2017.

Throughout the past twelve months, Party units have organised public meetings, red volunteer marches, seminars, exhibitions and cultural events. Special issues of the Party papers were brought out; lakhs of booklets in various languages were also published.  The message of the October Revolution that there is an alternative to capitalism and imperialism was taken to all parts of the country.

At a time when imperialism continues with its aggressive moves and the world is subject to predatory neo-liberal capitalism, the anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist, October Revolution inspires all those involved in the struggle against class exploitation and the unjust social order.

In India, the rightwing Hindutva forces in power have intensified the exploitation of the working people, targeted the minorities for attacks and imposed an authoritarianism which suppresses democratic rights and freedom of expression.  They are the face of reaction which hates all secular, democratic and progressive values.

The Russian Revolution too had provoked the right reactionary forces to try and drown the revolution with violence and bloodshed. They failed and the Soviet State and socialism was built in the Soviet Union.

The centenary observance also saw an ideological campaign to uphold Marxism-Leninism and to assert the contemporary relevance of the October Revolution.

On the completion of the 100th year of Red October, we have to reaffirm our resolve to conduct the struggle against class exploitation, social oppression and imperialist hegemony. We have to take forward Marxist theory and practice to build a powerful movement for social transformation and socialism.
