KERALA: Monk’s Genitals Chopped Off While Molesting a Woman

N S Sajith

A SAFFRON clad swami very close to the BJP and the Sangh Parivar in Kerala faced an unusual act of retaliation while he was trying to rape a young woman aged 21.  The victim chopped off the genitals of the habitual rapist, Srihari alias Gangeshananda Theerthapaada who claims to be a part of an Ashram at Panmana in Kollam district. The Ashram was established by Chattambi Swami, the great reformist leader who died in 1924. Swami was admitted to a Medical College Hospital on May 20.

The 54 year old swami, is a regular in news channels and in the platforms of Hindu Aikya Vedi and BJP as an ardent campaigner of Sangh Parivar ideology. He has been visiting the victim’s home for the last five-six years for puja. The victim hails from Pettah, in Thiruvananthapuram city. In a complaint filed in the Medical College hospital she said that she had been often raped by the swami right from when she was studying in higher secondary school. ‘I managed to get a knife, while he was trying to rape me I chopped the genitals off,’ she added. Her parents had informed the police about the incident.

The police has informed that a case under the provisions of POCSO Act has been registered against the swami  and no case was registered against the young woman.

The swami had always kept a good relation with the BJP state leadership. He was in the forefront of a struggle against previous LDF government which took a decision regarding the temples under Malabar Devaswom Board.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinaryi Vijayan while reacting to the queries of media persons, said that the girl’s act is unique and everyone should support her.

BJP state president Kummanam Rajashekharan said that the BJP and the NDA have no connection with the swami.
