THE Bhoomi Adhikar Andolan organised a day long protest dharna at Jantar Mantar demanding justice for the family of Pehlu Khan killed by so-called "gau-rakshaks" under the patronage of RSS.
A cheque of Rs Three lakh from Kisan Sabha was handed over on behalf of all present by Hannan Mollah, to his mother Angoori Begum and another Rs 50,000 to a seriously injured Ajmat.
The protest was addressed by AIKS general secretary, Hannan Mollah, CPI(M) Polit Bureau members Brinda Karat and Subhashini Ali, CPI national secretary, D Raja, CPI(ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, AIKS (Ajoy Bhavan) general secretary Atul Anjaan, SUCI leader Satyawan, former MP and JD(U) leader KC Tyagi, NCP leader and MP, DP Tripathi, Sunilam from Samajwadi party, Nita Mahadev, Gandhian, Annie Raja, NFIW, Madhuresh, NAPM, Ashok Choudhary and Roma, All India Union of Forest and Working People, Kavita Srivastava, People's Union of Civil Liberties, Badal Saroj, Madhya Pradesh, CPI(M), Krishnaprasad, NK Shukla, AIKS, Thirunavukkarasu, AIAWU president and others. Representatives from different Left and democratic parties as well as organisations of peasantry, agricultural workers, trade unions, women's, students, youth, dalit and adivasis, people's movements were present in solidarity.
AIKS president Amraram had sat on a dharna on April 18 demanding justice for the dairy farmer's family. Hundreds of peasants from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan attended the dharna. The family members of Pehlu Khan and other victims as well as villagers from Nuh attended the dharna.
The Bhoomi Adhikar Andolan demanded Rs One crore compensation for Pehlu Khan's family and job for a family member, arrest of perpetrators of the crime, government purchase of unproductive cows at market rate and protection of right to cattle trade as well as right to choice of food.
