On Elections in West Bengal

THE result of the West Bengal assembly polls clearly puts TMC as the decisive winner. TMC has bagged more than 200 seats. Left Front has won 30 seats whereas Congress has got success in 45 constituencies. Dr Surjya Kanta Mishra, leader of opposition, has lost from Narayangarh constituency. Asok Bhattacharya, the mayor of Siliguri, has won from Siliguri assembly constituency. Dr Sujan Chakraborty, secretariat member of CPI(M) West Bengal state committee, has won comfortably from Jadavpur constituency.

Dr Surjya Kanta Mishra, secretary of  CPI(M) West Bengal state committee and leader of opposition said in a press conference that they have accepted the verdict of the people. But he said unequivocally that the battle for democracy, secularism in and outside of the assembly will continue. Left, democratic and secular forces will fight out the tacit understanding between the TMC and the BJP, added Dr Mishra. Defeat in elections is not retreat for the Left.

CPI(M) state leadership and Left Front will meet in next two days to review the results.
