CPI(M) Calls on People to be Prepared for Wider Struggles

From Our Special Correspondent in Kolkata

“GET prepared for a wider battle. When the TMC is taking over different areas, we should concentrate on winning the minds of the people. We have to launch a greater struggle, through mass resistance and mass mobilisation. The Trinamool government must be ousted and people of Bengal have to take the responsibility to establish a people’s government”, said CPI(M) state secretary and Polit Bureau member of the Party, Suryakanta Misra while addressing a mammoth rally  in Durgapur on December 7.

The rally in Durgapur, a city with rich legacy of democratic movement, was organised braving attacks, intimidation from the ruling party. The city turned red as thousands participated in the public meeting.

Suryakanta Misra while congratulating people for their spontaneous participation said, “Such enthusiastic participation of the people of Durgapur will remain as an inspiration. TMC hooligans tried to vandalise the meeting. But for whom are they terrorising the people? TMC supporters are not living a better, peaceful life either. 17 lakh boys and girls had applied for TET, but more than half of them did not sit for the examination, as corruption was all too evident. They have lost faith on the chief minister.”

Referring to the current state of industrial situation, Suryakanta Misra said, “The Left Front government brought investments worth Rs 8,000 crores in 2010. But the Trinamool government could bring investments worth Rs 600 crores only after much fanfare. TMC failed to sustain the growth achieved by the Left Front. The chief minister has visited Delhi several times but could not reopen the closed factories like MAMC. The employment scenario is grim. Under such circumstances, the Left can be the only alternative. We need a government that will not create APL-BPL divisions, supply rice for Rs 2/kg, and provide irrigation water whenever needed. It will ensure that the farmers get adequate price for their crops. It will create new job opportunities.”
