Enthusiastic Women’s Rally Calls for a Huge Victory of Left Front in Municipal Elections

Rahul Sinha

EXPOSE the ugly face of both Congress and BJP in the ensuing municipal elections. Ensure victory of the Left Front in these elections for the overall development of Tripura. Chief minister Manik Sarkar said in a huge rally of women in Agartala on November 19 at the call of AIDWA Tripura state committee. The meeting in front of the local Rabindra Shatavarshiki Bhavan was the biggest women’s rally in the recent times. Women from all the 49 wards of the Agartala municipal corporation joined the meeting shouting slogans wearing red caps, holding high red flags. Addressing the meeting Manik Sarkar said, on the economic issues the Congress and the BJP have identical stands. Hence, the Congress is silent about the anti-people economic policies of the Narendra Modi government . Both the parties are enemies of the poor and toiling masses. None of these parties have any positive role for the development of the state. Though both the parties have fielded candidates in the elections, but they may reach a clandestine understanding against the Left Front. The state BJP president has openly asked the Congress not to field candidates in all the seats to avoid division of the anti-Left votes. Till now there is no reaction from the national or state leaders of the Congress party regarding this shameful proposition. We must keep a vigilant eye on their activities. Manik Sarkar said, prior to 1978, during the almost three decade long rule of the Congress, no step was taken to hold elections for Agartala municipality. During the 1988-1992 Congress-TUJS coalition, the elected local bodies including Agartala municipality were dismantled to facilitate plundering of developmental funds. BJP too has no role in the development of the state. In the last 18 months, at least 20 central ministers have visited the state. But not in a single occasion the saffron party submitted a memorandum on the developmental demands of the state. They are busy in polarising the people on communal lines to garner electoral dividends. Manik Sarkar said it is the Left Front which has brought about the change and is working for all the sections of the society. The tremendous change in Agartala and urban areas of the state in respect to civic amenities ranging from electrification, water supply, beautification, is the work of the Left Front. It is the Left Front government which started TUEP, the employment scheme for the urban poor, a novel idea in the country itself. These developmental works have to be continued and only the Left Front can ensure it. Hence for peace, harmony, development and democracy ensure victory of the Left by huge margins, he said. AIDWA all India vice president Rama Das said women of Tripura know what happens to their security and welfare if the Congress wins. The mood of the women is clear. They will give a fitting reply to the anti-people activities of the Congress and the communal politics of the BJP. AIDWA state secretary Jharna Das Baidya and AIDWA state working president Krishna Rakshit also addressed the meeting.
