CITU Congratulates the Working Class for Successful Satyagraha

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) congratulates the workers of the country and all central trade unions and national federations for the successful united Satyagraha and courting of arrest on February 26 in all state capitals. 5193 workers and trade union leaders courted arrest at the Parliament Street police station in the national capital, Delhi. The general secretary of CITU Tapan Sen, MP, and its national office bearers, Hemalata, JS Majumdar, Ranjana Nirula and AR Sindhu were among the arrested.

Before offering Satyagraha, national leaders addressed the huge gathering of the workers at Jantar Mantar. All of them strongly condemned the anti-worker policies of the BJP led government at the centre which was following the same policies as the Congress led UPA, despite strong opposition from the entire working class of the country. They asserted that these policies are only meant to benefit the big national and multinational corporations. Among those leaders who addressed the gathering were Tapan Sen (CITU), Brajesh Upadhyaya(BMS), Amarjeet Kaur (AITUC), Rajender Kumar (HMS), Raghavaiah (INTUC), Abani Roy(UTUC), R K Sharma (AIUTUC), Santosh Roy (AICCTU) and Lata (SEWA).

Addressing the gathering, Tapan Sen called upon the working class of the country to prepare for heightening the pitch of struggle in the days to come including countywide strike action to be decided by the joint platform of central trade unions.
