R L Moudgil

PUNJAB state units of SFI and DYFI jointly organised a rally on September 28 to mark the 107th birth anniversary of Shaheed-E– Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh at his native village of Khatkar Kalan in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district. The rally was jointly presided over by DYFI state president Surinder Khiwa and SFI state president Swaranjit Singh Daleo. DYFI central secretariat member Ram Rattan Singh Bagria, addressing the rally, said DYFI and SFI are committed to the ideology of Bhagat Singh and that they are determined to usher in an India of his dreams. He said the country’s agriculture sector is in serious crisis. More than five lakh peasants have committed suicide over debt. Bagria criticised the government’s policies due to which lakhs of small-scale industries have closed down. The DYFI leader said India has the largest youth population in the world, but majority of them are either unemployed or underemployed. He came down heavily on the Akali-BJP coalition government in Punjab for its failure to control drug smuggling which has resulted in a large number of youths being drug addicts. He said that 30 thousand cases have been registered against young men in the state for taking drugs but there is no action against drug smugglers. Comrade Vijay Misra, while addressing the rally, said leaders of other political parties only talk about Bhagat Singh’s sacrifice, but not of his socialist ideology. His sacrifice was supreme and we should follow his ideology, Misra added.
