Protest against Attack on CPI(M) Leader in Ludhiana

HUNDREDS of CPI(M) workers, led by Party state secretariat member Raghunath Singh, marched through the streets of Sudhar town of Ludhiana on September 27, protesting against the recent murderous attack on Party tehsil secretary Santokh Gill and demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. The protesters raised slogans against Punjab Police and the state government for their failure to initiate action against those involved in the murderous attack on Gill. A large number of people including CITU, Anganwari and MNREGA workers, Bhatha Mazdoors and shopkeepers participated in the march. Later on, the workers gheraoed Sudhar police Station and sat on a dharna. They demanded action against the inquiry officer (IO) for shielding the accused and helping them. They submitted a memorandum to the Ludhiana (Rural) police chief, Ravcharan Singh Brar, who was in Sudhar. The party leadership asked the police officer to ensure immediate arrest of all the accused and action against IO Jarnail Singh. CITU state secretary Jatinder Pal Singh, general secretary of Lal Jhanda Bhatha Mazdoor Union Punjab (CITU) Tarsem Jodhan, Daljit Kumar Gora, Tarlochan Singh Raikot, Chander Shekhar participated in the march. The leaders declared that the agitation would continue till all the accused were arrested and action was taken against the police officer.
