SFI Congratulates Rajasthan Unit for the Victory in Student Union Elections

THE central executive committee of the Students’ Federation of India has in a press release issued on August 26, congratulated the Rajasthan unit of SFI for registering encouraging victory in the recently conducted first phase of the student union elections in the state on August 23, 2014. The second phase of voting will be on August 30, 2014. The SFI contested in 57 colleges and three universities. It won the full panel in 26 colleges and one university. SFI candidates won the posts of 30 presidents, 32 vice presidents, 30 general secretaries and 31 joint secretaries. This victory of SFI is more significant in the backdrop of Rajasthan state government using all its machinery and power to tilt the results in favour of the ABVP. In the largest government college of the state namely S K College, Sikar, the SFI registered an emphatic victory. Like in earlier elections, this time too all the anti-SFI forces were united here against the SFI and used all kinds of tools but yet again, the students gave their mandate to the candidates of the SFI. In S K College, Suresh Kumar Dhaka won the president post with 2491 votes by a margin of 287 votes, meanwhile Mahender is elected as vice president, Yogesh kumar as general secretary and Dropti Verma as joint secretary, with margins of above 600 votes. The SFI also won full panel in Government Girls College, Sikar. The SFI contested student union elections for the first time in Dr Sampuranand Ayurvedic University, Jodhpur and won the full panel. Same thing was repeated in Barmer Government College where the SFI became victorious. SFI won most of the colleges in the districts of Jhunjhunu, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh and Alwar. After winning elections, the president of the students union of the Ayurveda University is brutally attacked by the BJP goons and his house has also been attacked. The SFI lost the president’s post by 62 votes in Jodhpur University where heavy irregularities were witnessed. The University authorities were working under the directions of the BJP government and the SFI candidate was defeated through unfair means with the help of the nexus of the BJP and the university authorities. Even after repeated protests, recounting has not been done which reflects the dictatorial attitude of the university authorities. Initially the SFI presidential candidate was declared winner with a margin of 300 votes but then BJP leaders entered the counting place and the result was changed after which no plea is being considered. Corruption by authorities has become more apparent in view of the huge margin of victory by SFI candidate Roshni Vishnoi for the post of general secretary. She won by a margin of 1205 votes. Also, most of the department representatives are won by SFI candidates. The central executive committee of the SFI demanded an independent enquiry into corruption in student union elections in Jodhpur University. These are the first students union elections after the general elections and these results convey a clear message that the so-called Modi wave is not working among the student community in Rajasthan. The ABVP’s entire election campaign was centered around Modi.
