Counter Aggressive Implementation of Neo-Liberal Policies by Centre: Karat

Rahul Sinha

THE CPI (M) shall work to increase its own strength and to forge a wider Left platform to counter the aggressive implementation of neo-liberal policies by the Narendra Modi government, party General Secretary Prakash Karat has said.

At the same time, the party will work to bring together all the Left, democratic and secular forces to oppose the attempts of the Hindutva forces to endanger the secular fabric and communal harmony in the country, Karat said at a function in Agartala on August 14. The function was organised to mark the completion of 35 years of Daily Desher Katha, the organ of the CPI (M) Tripura state committee.

He said with the BJP assuming power at the Centre, the Indian politics has taken a rightward shift and the reactionary forces are on the offensive. He also laid stress on the role of the Leftist media in this challenging time.

CPI (M) Polit Bureau member and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar too laid stress on making the paper more attractive, and asked it to engage in polemics to expose the motivated false propaganda of the corporate and anti-Communist media and be responsive to the aspirations of the readers. He called for cautious approach in bringing out the paper as a silly mistake may mislead the masses and prompt them to take wrong decisions. Sarkar appealed to the masses to support Daily Desher Katha in its future endeavours.

Daily Desher Katha Editor Gautam Das presided over the programme. CPI (M) Tripura state committee secretary Bijan Dhar was present on the dais. Several veteran employees of the paper were felicitated on this occasion.
