Anganwadi Federation to Hold Nation-wide Protests from Aug 20-23

THE All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers has in a statement issued on August 21 condemned the heinous rape and murder of the anganwadi worker Dipali Giri in West Bengal and called for protest demonstrations. AIFAWH has strongly condemned the heinous murder of Dipali Giri, an anganwadi worker, wife of Byomkesh Giri of Sunia, Kanthi, East Medinipur. She was stripped, paraded naked, gang raped and hacked to death by the TMC goons in the village. Her body was then hanged on August 18, 2014. This shocking incident was the last of the terror she was going through since 2011. The local TMC goons made it impossible for her husband and her son to live in the village and they were staying away from home since then. The TMC goons demanded that either she has to produce her husband or pay rupees fifteen lakh as ransom. Unable to fulfill either of their demands, she was forcefully taken out of her home, stripped and paraded naked by the TMC goons. She was gang-raped and hacked to death and was hanged. Till now the authorities are tightlipped on the issue. With the full connivance of the ruling party and the authorities, the culprits have not been booked till now. AIFAWH secretariat that met in Gulberga, Karnataka has demanded the immediate arrest of the criminals involved in the incident and a fair enquiry to ensure stringent punishment to them. AIFAWH secretariat expressed shock and anguish on the increasing number of such incidents of violent attacks on women in general and anganwadi workers in particular in West Bengal under Mamata Banerjee’s rule. On July 7, 2014 an anganwadi worker was raped by TMC goons in Nadia district where the TMC MP, Tapas Pal made his infamous statement of ‘I will send my people to rape the CPI(M) women’. Physical attacks and rape of anganwadi workers and helpers are not rare in West Bengal now. A leader of the union, Chabi Mahato was raped and buried alive in 2010 by the Maoist- TMC goons. The AIFAWH has called upon the anganwadi workers and helpers all over the country to come out to the streets and organise protest demonstrations, rallies, meetings etc from August 20-23, 2014 against this heinous crime and campaign among the common people against such atrocities. The AIFAWH expressed solidarity with the struggling activists of the WB state ICDS Karmi Samity (CITU) who are braving the terror unleashed by the TMC goons and the WB government.
