‘Forging Broad Platform to Fight Anti-people Policies’

CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat said that CPI (M) is committed to form a broad platform to fight against the anti-people policies and communal designs of the Narendra Modi government. A massive convention organised in Punjab and the decision of the CPI(M), CPI and the CPI(ML) to jointly contest in Bihar assembly elections are part of this joint platform. This alliance will continue in Jharkhand assembly polls as well. He reiterated that elections are not the sole aim of this joint platform. Addressing a massive gathering of people on the occasion of the inauguration CPI(M) area committee office in Sreekandapuram, in Kannur district on August 19, 2014, Karat said that the BJP government is catering to the interests of big corporates and Hindutva forces as it gained power with the help of these forces. BJP’s two and a half month long rule proves this through its decisions to privatise railways and to allow FDI in sectors like defence and insurance. The government is also trying to phase out subsidies on petroleum and fertilizers. Prakash Karat said that the Hindutva project of the BJP-RSS has resulted in 27 cases of communal attacks after Modi came to power. Planned attempts to flare up communal tensions are happening in states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat. The BJP is aiming to divide the people to in order to divert their focus from the anti-people policies, he said.
