Comrade Alluru Satyanarayana

VETERAN CPI(M) leader, freedom fighter and trade union leader Comrade Alluru Satyanarayana passed away in Hyderabad on 04th July. He was 86 years old and is survived by his wife Alluru Manmohani (Ammaji), a prominent AIDWA leader and three daughters. His body was brought to Party state headquarters M B Bhavan and kept for two hours when scores of activists came and paid their homage to the departed leader. CPI(M) Polit Bureau member B V Raghavulu placed the Red flag on the body and paid his homage. His body was then taken to his native place Palakollu in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh where the cremation took place on the morning of 05th July. CPI(M) Polit Bureau members Sitaram Yechury and B V Raghavulu, central secretariat member V Srinivasa Rao expressed their deep condolences at the passing away of Comrade Alluru. CPI(M) state secretaries of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, P Madhu and Thammineni Veerabhadram also conveyed their condolences. Comrade Alluru Satyanrayana was born on 01st August 1927 in a rich landlord family in Sakhinetipalli village of East Godavari district. He joined Quit India agitation as a ninth class student in 1942 mobilising his friends. They wrote on walls in the town asking British to quit India. Many of his friends who participated along with him went on to become important leaders of the CPI(M) in the district. Actually Comrade Alluru joined the Communist Party in 1943 while studying in a high school in Narsapur. He was an active organiser of Students Federation and worked as Party secretary of school branches. He worked as Narsapur area secretary of the Party from 1952 to 1968 when he became the West Godavari district secretary of the Party. He remained in that capacity till 1994. He became state committee member in 1968 and state secretariat member of the Party in 1988. He was relieved of these responsibilites in 2008 and 2005 respectively due to advancing age. He remained a special inviteee to the state committee. He was presently discharging the responsibility of chairman of state control commission. Comrade Alluru was incharge of West Godavari district trade union movement for a long time since 1968. He was also a state office bearer of CITU from 1994 till date. He was also a member of all India General Council of CITU. (INN)
